Connected Care: Reid Health Transforms Clinical and IT Collaboration To Serve Its Rural Community

When Richmond, Ind.-based Reid Health set out to improve its electronic health record (EHR) system, it didn’t approach the transformation as an IT-led project. It started with listening to clinicians and understanding their work firsthand.

“Burnout isn’t a soft issue. It’s a systems issue. It shows up in turnover, productivity, patient access, quality and, of course, patient engagement and financial performance,” says CIO Muhammad Siddiqui. “IT’s role isn’t to be an order-taker, and it doesn’t have to be a department of ‘no.’ IT should be a partner that brings structure, safety and execution.” 

EHR optimization isn’t a one-and-done deal. With the improved collaboration, clinicians are now seeing their workflows becoming more streamlined, and with the adoption of tools such as ambient clinical documentation, they can spend less time on their screens and more time with patients.
