Research recently published by Spyglass Consulting, for instance, finds that smartphones and mobile unified communications tools allow nurses and other medical support staff to streamline communications for better collaboration and improved care coordination.

More than 70 percent of hospitals that responded to the survey indicated that mobile communications were an emerging investment priority.

From state-of-the-art nurse call systems to technically advanced medication dispensing cabinets that can boost accuracy and save time, new innovations enable nurses to deliver consistent, high-quality care to patients.

An Ergotron Healthcare infographic outlines several areas of challenge and change within the nursing profession over the past few years. One of those areas? Implementing new technologies into existing nursing workflows. Electronic health record use, it notes, has added 3 hours of computer work to 12 hour shifts.

Another challenge? Maintaining care quality while dealing with nursing shortages, which broadband-enabled telemedicine could help, according to the infographic.
