As a widely used electronic health records system, Epic now connects with medical imaging, analytics, artificial intelligence and numerous clinical workflows, making the infrastructure beneath it central to care delivery, operational resilience and long-term data strategy.
This means Epic modernization must go beyond the conventional infrastructure refresh: Over the next three to five years, healthcare CIOs must balance uptime, consistent performance, cyber recovery and cost control simultaneously.
“Epic, and EHRs in general, are no longer isolated applications,” says Chris Kopinski, head of healthcare and life sciences at data management company Everpure. “It’s sitting at the center of a broader clinical data environment.”
