Review: Samsung CJ890 Series LED Monitor Improves Healthcare Workflows

Healthcare professionals often work extended hours. The Samsung CJ890 Series LED monitor is designed to reduce the strain of those long days.

Almost every healthcare environment requires long work hours, at least sometimes. While some days might be relatively normal, nobody knows when the next big crisis will need an all-hands response that goes beyond the typical 9-to-5 job.

For many healthcare workers, much of that overtime will be spent gazing at computer screens, writing up reports, conducting research, collaborating with others or creating effective treatment plans. The rapid rise of telemedicine during the pandemic has also added a lot more screen time for many in the healthcare field.

Samsung has responded to this need by designing the CJ890 LED display to reduce eyestrain and fatigue. The 144-hertz refresh rate means there is almost no flickering, which is a major cause of eyestrain. The CJ890 produces as close to a solid image as possible using current LED technology — and it goes a step further.

Users can activate a special Eye Saver Mode to reduce their strain even more. When this feature is active, the brightness is dimmed slightly, though not enough to affect the accuracy of images. In addition, blue light levels coming from the monitor are reduced, removing yet another major cause of eye fatigue and strain.

In testing, I used the CJ890 for eight hours per day, with and without the Eye Saver Mode active. I compared the CJ890 with the use of a different LED monitor over the same period. Even without the Eye Saver Mode, using the CJ890 produced far less fatigue at the end of the day. With Eye Saver active, there wasn’t any notable eyestrain, something that healthcare workers pulling long shifts will surely appreciate.
